Kids Ahoy Aklan Launch and a Play Mission
KidsAhoy Aklan opens its second location in Aklan with a lot of heart and soul…a Play Mission and outreach program hosted by Kids Ahoy and RMCAT (Roxas Memorial College of Arts and Trades) HS Batch’90 for the top 10 students of grades 1 to 6 from Andagao Elementary School (plus their most creative and most talented kids in each grade)! What a rockin’ way to start another exciting year and to celebrate a 20th year high school reunion!
After our initial encounter with these amazingly creative, smart and nice kids from our community (Andagao Elem School), we hope to establish a lasting partnership which will continue to provide the kids with a creative, positive, happy experiences in the coming months! This is just the first step…of many more that we’re planning so we can truly help unleash children’s creative power! It was truly an enriching morning not only for the kids, but for all of us as well!
THEME: TREES, TREES, TREES!
Thanks to the Principal and Faculty of Andagao Elem School for accommodating our request.
Thanks too to Kids Ahoy Manila’s Teachers Aia and Zeena for hosting and facilitating this play mission.
Thanks also to Kids Ahoy Aklan’s dynamic team for assisting!
and of course to our sponsor: RMCAT Batch 90 for including this meaningful and valuable outreach program in your milestone celebration!
LET’S CONTINUE TO R.O.C.K.!!!! (Reach Our Community Kids)

Kids Ahoy’s CARE-nival!
WHAT IS KIDS AHOY’S CARE-NIVAL?
A fund-raising event spearheaded by Kids Ahoy’s Blended Learners featuring a bazaar and music & arts fest for a cause!
There will also be storytelling, musical performances, a Halloween costume parade aside from the exciting product showcases by both adult and kid merchants.
In lieu of an entrance fee, we would like to request for donations of storybooks, toys and/or art supplies for our HERO QUEST PROJECT: MAKING TOY CHESTS FOR KIDS CHARITIES!
DETAILED DESCRIPTION:
o A whole-day, family-oriented, child-centered event celebrating International Children’s Month!
o It is also fund-raising event that was planned and implemented by the Jr. Entrepreneur class of Kids Ahoy’s Blended Learning Program.
o A Bazaar/Arts and Music Festival that showcases handmade, eco-friendly products, as well as products designed by the students and other kid merchants.
o Exhibition of the students’ artwork and musical talent.
o Exhibition of professional and amateur artists, artisans, musicians, crafters.
o Proceeds of the event will go to into the construction of toy chests full of books, toys and educational materials which will be given to four (4) N.G.O.s that deal with abused children.
OBJECTIVES
In line with Kids Ahoy’s Blended Learning PLACES Program’s Jr. Entrepreneurship class, as well as our Everyday Heroes theme for the SY 2010 – 2011, this event aims to:
o Teach children about entrepreneurship and introduce social responsibility.
o Raise funds for our young heroes’ quest – this year they will be putting together a toy chest or a play kit for underserved children, either community centers, or at shelters, around Metro Manila.
o While sponsors are welcome, we also encourage children to work on their own in raising funds, both as an academic exercise, and as way to teach important life-skills like decision-making and creative problem solving. In the process we aim to increase their self- confidence and self-worth.
o Expose the children to various professionals – artists and entrepreneurs, so as to learn and be inspired by them.
o Encourage eco-friendly practices, like recycling, upcycling, and handcrafting (as opposed to buying). This is also to raise awareness of, and appreciation for, what their care-providers do for them.
o Provide a resource and opportunity to bring together families and kids, and artisans and chefs to encourage creativity, resourcefulness, and craftsmanship.
o While the children may come in costume, we aim to provide an alternative activity to the typical Halloween celebrations.

“Peace is a culture that we create by putting it in the curriculum for young people, through creating this next generation where young people get a chance to go across borders, across cultures, to learn more about each other’s life, to create a global community, learn about opportunities for helping others. It’s investing in peace and tolerance training, ending the gap between rich and poor.”

Shop & Care eNetwork makes Lil Rescue Play Missions, beneficiary
[a repost from Shop & Care Network]
Welcome to Shop & Care Network of Shoppers, Sellers, Donors, Volunteers & Little Rescuers! Why a Shop & Care online shop you ask? How is it possible to shop and buy you want (or sell & donate what you can) and do a little good for Filipino kids in the process?
The “1 Little 2 Little 3…Little Rescue” Play Mission idea was born out of the floodwaters of Typhoon Ondoy last Oct 2009. The first play mission was spearheaded by Kids Ahoy (a proactive community of Filipino parents, educators, kids and kid-lovers) together with its Lil Rescue volunteers & sponsors who wanted to do something concrete to help the Typhoon Ondoy kid-victims. The first community-beneficiary (more than 200 urban poor kids) was from Families and Children for Empowerment and Development (FCED) of Paco & Pandacan. The succeeding kid-beneficiaries were from Gawad Kalinga-Sitio Ruby, North Fairview & Gawad Kalinga-Karangalan Village in Pasig. We have also an ongoing outreach program (Art and Outdoors) with the kids of CRIBS Foundation most Friday afternoons since November 2009.
After only three play missions, a CRIBS ongoing Art & Outdoors Friday pm-sessions and a little over 300 kids benefitting from the facilitated play & learn experiences, it was clear to all Little Rescue Play Missions organizers that there are many more kids in-need who can benefit from such activities and therefore they must continue to be hosted in 2010. Aside from the donated items which will surely be appreciated by the kids, it is truly the wonderful play & learn experience which they value the most.
Check out photos of the past Play Missions which will pretty much be replicated and improved (if we get more resources, more volunteers, more sponsors, etc). Once you view the photos, the only question that remains is, “HOW CAN WE STOP HOSTING SUCH PLAY MISSIONS FOR KIDS IN-NEED?”

The Lil Rescue team is committed to do the work but we will need additional resources to keep on giving and sharing! Donated proceeds generated from Shop & Care through its network of buyers, sellers and donors will be used in the succeeding play missions which will be held at least once a month in 2010 (50 kids per play mission will be invited from partner-NGOs i.e. FCED, Gawad Kalinga) specifically, for the following purposes:
1: Purchase art (crayons, paper, pencil) & school (notebook, pad paper, ballpen, pencil) supplies necessary for the facilitation of each play mission.
2: Put together play-center-in-a-box which will be used during the missions (and if possible to be donated to each partner-NGO beneficiary) such as:
A. SPORTS & RECREATION-IN-A-BOX (includes basketball, soccer, net, etc)
B. CREATIVE PLAY-IN-BOX (books, art supplies, puppets)
C. FREE-PLAY-IN-A-BOX (toy blocks, pretend play toys)
D. LITERACY-IN-A-BOX (Story books, flashcards & other basic reading aids & manipulatives)
3: Funds to be used to pay for transportation to bring kids over to the play mission venue (Kids Ahoy, Cubao, QC) and back to their communities.
4: Funds to be used to purchase snacks/refreshments for the kids during the play missions.
5: Purchase art & school supplies as take-home gifts for the kids.
The life and future of ONE CHILD will impact 10s, 100s maybe even 1000s. We can never underestimate even our personal efforts to help and to reach out to just ONE CHILD TODAY! THROUGH THIS SHOP & CARE NETWORK, WE WOULD LIKE TO CHALLENGE YOU TO DO A LITTLE GOOD WHILE YOU SHOP (and sell!).

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE! YOU ARE A CERTIFIED KID-LOVER!
—end of quote—
True to the play mission’s theme, (All we need is…LOVE!), “LOVE, LOVE, LOVE!” was certainly all around as Kids Ahoy welcomed kid-beneficiaries of our Little Rescue Play Mission together with the volunteer coordinators from Gawad Kalinga – Karangalan, Pasig! Whoever it was who said that love weighs more than gold was telling the truth! Our hearts were that much richer and happier last Saturday and no matter what we were able to share, the Little Rescuers (volunteers and donors) gained much more. The happiness we feel is a different kind of high and it’s so addictive we can’t wait to experience it again, and again…and again! We hope you’ll join us in our Little Rescue Play Missions in 2010 as we strive to make it happen AT LEAST once a month!
“Christmas is not in tinsel and lights and outward show. The secret lies in an inner glow. It’s lighting a fire inside the heart. Good will and joy a vital part. It’s higher thought and a greater plan. It’s glorious dream in the soul of man.” – Wilfred A. Peterson (The Art of Living)
“It came without ribbons, It came without tags, It came without packages, boxes, or bags. Christmas can’t be bought from a store… Maybe Christmas means a little bit more. “- Dr. Seuss
We would like to acknowledge the following loving people who shared their blessings, time and effort to make this a fun experience for all involved…including the Little Rescuers themselves!

Lil Rescue Holiday Playdate for Gawad Kalinga kids!
We prayed for a dry, breezy and bright day as it was threatening to be the opposite when we woke up yesterday. It rained at approx 5pm, as we said our final thanks and see-yahs to the Gawad Kalinga (Brgy Sitio-Ruby, North Fairview QC) kid-beneficiaries & GK Volunteers Nina & Arvin together with several Parent-volunteers for gracing our pre-holiday charity playdate! The sky was blue and the sun was shining down on us as we spent an afternoon of meaningful fun with the kids!
Thanks to all who participated and shared their time, resources and love! Sharing is indeed loving. We, at Kids Ahoy, are looking forward to do more of such heartwarming & life-enriching activities!
